About Daniel
I am from a family of teachers. I’ve worked at all levels in education, from driving a school bus to earn money while going to college, to tutoring elementary students after school to subsidize my teacher salary, to working on the executive cabinet of one of the largest public school districts in California.
I believe instructional practice is the heart of our profession as educators, and that we have a profesional duty to ensure our classrooms and schools meet the needs of all learners. I am deeply interested in the connection between teachers’ emotional and professional lives and the quality and rigor of student learning in classrooms.
I am currently the General Director for the Lincoln School in San Jose, Costa Rica. Lincoln recently celebrated its 75th year anniversary, making it one of the oldest American schools in Central America.
Hi Danny,
I wanted to email you, but don’t see your email on here. I found your blog back in March and have been reading along with your observations of virtual learning and how this time will change education. We are also 100% remote in salt lake, so I basically feel like I run a small school (five kids in K through 6). And I care a lot about moving them all forward, which is uncertain with this style of teaching.
Anyway, it’s great to have found your blog! And neat to follow you/your family on your adventure in Costa Rica. That’s something we want to do some day – move to a Spanish-speaking country and give our kids that experience.
Best,
Janis Turley Hansen
Janis – great to hear from you! The Distance Learning with all of the kids is a major challenge, but no complaints as we feel like just having access to learning is a blessing these days. We’ve long (long) talked and thought about going international with our family, and are beyond excited to actually make it happen. It’s being a fun adventure, despite the limitations of COVID.
